Description: Patent and trademark lawyers are subject to special ethics and substantive rules which are different (and sometimes conflict with) traditional law practice. Join us for this new and insightful class presented by a registered patent attorney who focuses his practice on ethics matters, which will guide attorneys and remind them of their unique obligations under the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Rules of Professional Conduct, which are based upon the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct. Among the issues the presenter will address are:
- Nuanced topics related to intellectual property conflicts of interest, including subject matter conflicts and conflicts in Office Actions and searches
- Candor obligations at the USPTO
- Best practices in representing clients.
Those who attend will gain a better understanding of the USPTO’s regulatory powers, ethical rules, and federal preemption.
