Description: As the employment landscape continues changing so do the challenges facing employers and employees alike. Join our distinguished panel and learn the basics of employment discrimination law as they discuss cases from the Supreme Court of the United States, the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit, and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. Those who attend will learn how to better prove and defend a discrimination claim, including the elements of proof under relevant federal statutes such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA), Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act, and the Pregnancy Discrimination Act. Among the specific topics the panel will discuss are:
- Disparate treatment (race, gender, national origin, religion, age, disability, pregnancy)
- Retaliation
- Harassment – Hostile work environment
- Reasonable accommodations under the ADAAA
- Equal pay
While this is a wide-ranging and informative class, the faculty will not focus on proving damages. This class is a must for those who handle employment discrimination cases, or who have an interest in the subject matter.
