Date: Thursday, June 6, 2024 Time: 12:00-2:00 p.m.Each year, countless D.C. tenants fall victim to illegal rent increases, which create unnecessary financial hardships. Without redress, these financial struggles can spiral and lead to housing insecurity, inability to care for one’s family, and emotional distress. Knowing if your client’s rental unit falls within rent control or meets one of the exemptions is the critical first step to analyzing a potentially illegal rent increase. An aggrieved tenant may be entitled to monetary damages and can seek such relief by filing a tenant petition. This housing training will equip pro bono attorneys to fight for the legal rights of their clients.
This course is sponsored by the DC Bar Pro Bono Center in collaboration with the DC Tenants' Rights Center, uniting to empower attorneys to protect and advocate for tenants' rights effectively.
PLEASE NOTE: Training participants must agree to accept one pro bono housing case within three months of this training. This training requirement is waived for attorneys employed by legal services providers. To register, click “Add to Cart.” At checkout, if you do not already have a DC Bar login account, please create a free profile by clicking “Create an Account."
