Description: Criminal records can result in a denial of housing, loans, and employment, long after a person has “served their time.” What are the benefits and differences of these processes? Those who attend this informative class will learn the theory, law, procedures, and effects of sealing or expunging criminal records in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and the federal courts.
The requirements and procedures vary for petitioning for expungement or sealing in each of these jurisdictions. Our experienced and knowledgeable presenters will cover the applicable statutes and case law in each jurisdiction, discuss the effects of expungement or sealing on other issues (e.g., immigration, security clearances and federal employment), and offer practical tips for filing petitions for expungement or sealing and for responding to client inquiries on this topic.
While this class is a must for those who represent clients seeking the expungement or sealing of criminal records, others – including those handling employment and immigration matters – may find it of interest.
