The complexity of court proceedings can present a barrier to justice for pro se litigants. The D.C. Office of Administrative Hearings employs simplified procedures to try to ensure that even unrepresented litigants may effectively prosecute their claims and receive “fair hearings.” In this panel discussion, three ALJs will explain how simplified procedures are used in public benefits and unemployment insurance cases and will consider the potential for courts of general jurisdiction to adopt similar procedures to improve access to justice.

Pre-registration for this program is required. This program will be held at the D.C. Office of Administrative Hearings. As always, please feel free to share this invitation with colleagues. D.C. Bar membership is not required to register. Non-members will need to create a profile to register.
