Description: This informative class begins with a brief overview of foreclosures in the District, including the early mediation docket in the D.C. Superior Court. The following are among the thorny issues at which our experienced and engaging faculty will take a deeper look:
COVID-19 Impact: The pandemic continues to impact the foreclosure processes in the District. Our faculty will discuss the local and federal pandemic response, including new relief options for homeowners.
Condo Foreclosures: Due to recent decisions by the Court of Appeals, foreclosures by a condominium association can have a serious impact on secured mortgage lenders, including possibly voiding security interests. The faculty will discuss how condo foreclosures affect mortgage liens and homeowners.
Reverse Mortgages: The faculty will cover special protections for reverse mortgage borrowers and surviving non-borrower spouses, as well as the treatment of heirs of reverse mortgage borrowers.
Homeowner Defenses: The presenters will also focus on legal defenses to foreclosures and practice tips for helping homeowners avoid foreclosure.
Overlay with Probate: Finally, the faculty will discuss special issues affecting personal representatives and conservators/guardians and other successors in interest.
This class is a must for those handling these matters, particularly cases involving our aging population.
Faculty: Tracy Buck, Offit Kurman PA Matthew Cohen, BWW Law Group LLC Maya Sheppard, Legal Counsel for the Elderly (LCE)
