Credits: 2.0 general credit hours (Note: This class may be eligible for technology credit in those jurisdictions having such a requirement.) Series Description: In an era where artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the legal landscape, understanding its underlying mechanisms, strengths, and limitations is essential for attorneys. This new four-part series provides a comprehensive foundation for legal professionals who want to stay ahead of the AI curve and navigate its implications responsibly and effectively. Class Description: Led by our faculty expert, this foundational class in our Foundations in Modern Law: Specialized AI Practice Series offers a comprehensive introduction to the inner workings of AI through three major categories shaping its impact: language modeling, image processing, and synthetic agents. This class will demystify the concepts behind neural networks, explaining what they are, how they are trained, and how they function in each category. Attendees will gain clarity on the mechanics of neural networks, dispelling the common misconception that they operate as "computer brains" with independent thought. By the end of the class, you will have a clear understanding of what neural networks actually do and the kinds of tasks each AI category can and cannot handle. This class is designed to equip legal professionals with a practical understanding of AI’s true capabilities and limitations, empowering them to engage confidently and knowledgeably with AI-driven tools and applications in their field. Those interested in this class may also want to attend A Deep Dive on Language Modeling, Working Alongside AI Responsibly & Ethically, and Risks Baked Into AI.
