Description: Trauma is present in nearly every practice area including family, civil, criminal, employment, immigration, housing, education, and even commercial disputes. Yet most attorneys have never been trained in how trauma affects memory, communication, decision-making, client engagement, or litigation strategy.
This new and insightful class provides a practical, accessible framework for trauma-informed legal practice. You will leave with strategies for the following and more:
- Conducting trauma-informed client intakes and interviews
- Understanding trauma’s impact on memory and behavior
- Gathering essential facts while avoiding inadvertent re-traumatization
- Integrating trauma-informed practices into discovery, negotiation, and hearings
- Supporting your own well-being when dealing with emotionally heavy subject matter
- Communicating clearly, ethically, and effectively with clients experiencing dysregulation or crisis
Designed for attorneys in any discipline, this class covers how trauma shows up in clients, witnesses, opposing parties, and even in ourselves as practitioners. Learn concrete skills to improve communication, strengthen advocacy, reduce harm, and navigate emotionally charged cases with professionalism and confidence.
