Unresolved regulatory questions persist regarding oversight of cryptocurrency and digital assets. Decentralized finance, or DeFi, adds the open question of who to regulate, since the decentralized applications that define this space may lack a centralized authority that controls them. Yet all of these financial technologies continue attracting massive funding from established actors and new entrants alike, and innovation continues apace. We will discuss these technologies’ potential, as well as their potential for regulation. The event opens with a fireside chat between SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce and Ashley Ebersole of Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP, and continues with a distinguished panel discussion moderated by Ebersole and Ji Kim of Gemini.
