The vocational expert has a significant role regarding a claim for disability benefits during a Social Security Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) hearing. The testimony of the vocational expert (or VE) can greatly influence the outcome of the disability claim. But who is the VE, what is the VE’s role, and how do you as claimant’s representative cross examine the VE to maximize your client’s chances of winning?

This training will cover essential concepts and strategies to help you prepare and execute an effective cross examination of the VE including:

  1. The Role and Responsibilities of the Vocational Expert in an ALJ Hearing

  1. Introduction to Vocational Terms and Concepts

  1. Preparing for the Vocational Expert

  1. The Hypotheticals

  1. Challenging the VE’s Testimony

  1. Strategies for Narrowing / Eliminating Any Suitable Work for your Client
