Join the D.C. Bar Taxation Community for this in-person program on generation-skipping transfer (GST) tax. Planning to reduce or eliminate the imposition of the GST tax is critical for any estate planning client. Even the best plans are only useful when the GST exemption is properly and effectively allocated on the Form 709 – a form not well adapted for GST reporting, particularly in the context of gifts to trusts. An error on one year’s return can lead to a cascading effect in future years, culminating in incorrect estate tax returns. Utilizing a hypothetical scenario, this program examines the mechanics of properly allocating the GST exemption and how to avoid common allocation errors.
