Join the D.C. Bar Communities Office and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum for a program that reflects on Holocaust history and what it means for attorneys and their work today. By studying Nazi Germany, participants will examine how German judges, despite having the authority to challenge Hitler and defend political freedoms, largely did not and instead interpreted and enforced Nazi laws in ways that enabled persecution and mass murder. In the Museum’s Law, Justice, and the Holocaust program, you will examine decrees, judicial opinions, and case law of the period to understand the courts’ role in establishing the Nazi German state. This program’s close scrutiny of the past provides a framework for considering the responsibilities of judges and lawyers in a modern democracy.
The program includes a 90-minute guided tour of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, followed by a 90-minute facilitated session.
Space is limited for this event, pre-registration is required. Feel free to share this invitation with colleagues. D.C. Bar membership is not required to register. Non-members will need to create a profile to register.
