**REGISTRATION FOR THE COURSE IS NOW CLOSED. VISIT WWW.LAWHELP.ORG/DC/NPSB FOR INFORMATION ON OTHER LEGAL RESOURCES FOR DC NONPROFITS.**

Registering here registers you for all eight sessions of this course. There is a one-time $75 charge for the entire course.

The eight sessions will be held over webinar from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. EST, every Thursday, beginning April 13, 2023 (April 13, 20, 27, May 4, 11, 18, 25 & June 1).

The business law course is designed for *non-attorney* nonprofit leaders with significant management responsibilities and other staff that seek to develop their management capabilities.

As a nonprofit leader, you have a lot on your plate.  Raising funds, managing the organization’s programs, supervising staff, and developing a strategic vision for the organization are just a few of your duties.  At the same time, you need to familiarize yourself with many areas of the law: IRS regulations, local and federal employment law, contract law, risk management, and intellectual property law.  At times, it can be too much to handle.

This course, sponsored by the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center and Center for Nonprofit Advancement, can help by giving you an overview of critical legal issues that apply to nonprofit organizations, including:

  • The basic IRS requirements for nonprofit organizations,
  • Best practices in nonprofit governance,
  • How local and federal employment laws apply to your organization,
  • The ABCs of insurance and risk management,
  • Information about financial oversight and fiscal controls,
  • Issues to consider when reviewing a contract, and
  • How to protect your trademarks and other intellectual property.

The eight session course will be taught by expert lawyers with experience dealing with nonprofit organizations.
