Join the D.C. Bar Arts, Entertainment, Media and Sports Law Community the second Wednesday of every month for an informal and dynamic round table discussion on the most recent developments in Media Law. In-person meetings will be held at Ballard & Spahr LLP, 1909 K Street, NW. Please check in at the main lobby and take the elevator to the twelfth floor.
AGENDA and SPEAKERS:
National Public Radio, et al. v. Trump et al.
In December, Judge Moss of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia heard summary judgment argument in a lawsuit filed by National Public Radio and three local member stations challenging a May 2025 executive order, Ending Taxpayer Subsidization of Biased Media, to defund public broadcasting. NPR and the member stations challenge both the authority of the Trump Administration to issue such a directive and the constitutionality of doing so, describing the policy as obviously retaliatory and based on a viewpoint-discriminatory motive. Katie Townsend, of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, counsel for NPR, and Steven Zansberg, of Zansberg Beylkin LLC, counsel for the local member stations, will discuss the case and the argument.
This brown-bag lunch program is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is required. As always, please feel free to share this invitation with colleagues. D.C. Bar membership is not required to attend. Non-members will need to create a profile to register.
