Description: The D.C. Metro region features many government contractor (GovCon) companies that are both growing through acquisition as well as transferring to new owners. But M&A in government contracting is different, and attorneys need to be attuned to the unique aspects of this industry to serve their clients well. Join us for this new class, and hear from Sharon Heaton, a former corporate law attorney and the founder of the M&A firm sbLiftOff, on the outlines of dealmaking today and gain pragmatic tips for a successful close. Sharon will discuss the following topics and more:
- How to determine whether a company is sellable
- Special issues in the GovCon M&A designation market
- What the process is for GovCon M&A
- When it is appropriate to bring a GovCon company to market
- Client management (holding the founder-owner’s hand)
- Due diligence and cost assessment
- Who the players are on the M&A team
- How to structure GovCon transactions
- How GovCon companies get valued
- Categories of buyers for GovCon
This class will be of interest to those who represent businesses and corporations, as well as those who represent clients who contract with the federal government.
