ON DEMAND: Animal Abuse and the Criminal Justice System
When you watched Tiger King or read about Michael Vick's dog-fighting ring, did you want to lock them up and throw away the key? Or does the criminal justice system introduce more unfairness and fail to prevent or deter the underlying abuse? To try and answer these questions, our panel of prosecutors, defense lawyers, and animal-welfare advocates will discuss and debate how criminal law is used to address animal abuse, the downsides of relying on criminal cases, and whether other tools can be as or more effective in keeping animals safe.
