Date: Monday, May 12, 2025 Time: 12:00-1:00 p.m. Format: In-Person
The D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center seeks pro bono attorneys for eviction defense cases. This training is designed to equip attorneys who have had little or no experience in landlord/tenant matters to improve their evidentiary skills in eviction defense matters.
Evidentiary Hearings in Landlord Tenant Branch provides an opportunity to win both big and small battles for tenants facing evictions. This training will cover the most frequent type of evidentiary hearing, the hearing on setting the amount of a protective order also known as a Bell hearing. Specific competencies that will be covered include; introduction of photographic evidence; business record and other relevant hearsay exceptions; cross and direct examination; and proffers. We will also review the basic law on protective orders in LTB cases.
Format of the Training:
This training will be in person only.
Trainees will have the opportunity to ask questions.
Following the training, trainees will contact the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center to fulfill their pro bono requirement.
PLEASE NOTE: Training participants must agree to accept one pro bono housing case within three months of this training. This training requirement is waived for attorneys employed by legal services providers.
