Description: Join us for the return of this topical class, during which our faculty experts will focus on copyright and trademark issues that are unique to the Internet and the use of social media. The following are among the topics the panel will discuss.

Steven P. Hollman, Attorney
Steven P. Hollman is a partner with Sheppard Mullin’s Business Trial Practice Group in the firm's Washington, D.C., office, and leader of the Trade Secrets Team. Steven has jury-tried patent, trademark and advertising cases during his career extending over thirty-five years and has successfully tried section 337 patent and trademark investigations before the International Trade Commission. Steve has handled numerous labeling and advertising disputes for major pharma and food companies, including class action advertising litigation, and for pharmaceutical innovators and life sciences companies. He also puts his advocacy skills to use arguing successfully before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, among other federal appellate courts.
Steve spent several years participating in the management of a large firm’s trademark practice, encompassing all aspects of trademark portfolio management including trademark search and clearance; preparation of trademark opinions; prosecution; contested inter partes opposition and cancellation proceedings before the United State Patent and Trademark Office; enforcement and litigation. He also has extensive experience involving internet IP litigation, including internet domain name disputes, internet defamation, internet trademark and trade dress infringement and copyright claims, and cease and desist practice and takedowns. He has advised political campaigns, including the Presidential Inaugural Committee, on trademark and copyright issues. He also has handled sports franchises and sports figure celebrity endorsement disputes and right of publicity matters.
Steve served on the Editorial Board of the American Intellectual Property Law Association’s Quarterly Journal from 2018 – 2021, and he is a current member of the editorial board for IPLaw360. He has taught Trademark Enforcement for the D.C. Bar since 2001. Steve has repeatedly been designated a top-rated lawyer in IP and Super Lawyer in IP. He has a Martindale Hubbell AV Preeminent Rating and enjoys a Judicial AV Preeminent Rating. He has been named repeatedly as an IP Star by Managing IP magazine.
Steven is a member of the District of Columbia and Maryland bars, and is admitted to practice before various federal courts, including the Supreme Court of the United States. He earned a JD from the University of Virginia School of Law, and an AB, magna cum laude, from Harvard College, where he was Phi Beta Kappa.
Shauna M. Wertheim, Attorney
Shauna M. Wertheim, co-managing partner at Marbury Law Group PLLC, practices complex commercial litigation and general civil litigation, with an emphasis on intellectual property, and global brand protection, as well as employment law and Internet law. Ms. Wertheim practices in federal and state courts, at both the trial and appellate levels regarding patent, trademark, and copyright infringement; unfair competition, trade secret and false/misleading advertising matters; computer, internet, and high technology claims; and employment law disputes encompassing wrongful discharge and Title VII claims. Ms. Wertheim also has experience in conducting both buyer and seller side IP due diligence.
Ms. Wertheim also practices before administrative agencies and tribunals, including the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. She counsels clients in a wide spectrum of industries about global protection of their design patents, trademark, trade dress, trade secret, copyright, and other IP rights, and has extensive experience in prosecution, licensing, and enforcement. Ms. Wertheim routinely provides counseling on all aspects of employer-employee relations including drafting of employment agreements, non-compete and non-solicitation agreements; conducting management training on sexual harassment issues; and conducting employment-related investigations.
Ms. Wertheim is a member of the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia Bars. She also is admitted to practice before various federal courts, including the Supreme Court of the United States. She earned a JD from the Georgetown Law Center, where she participated in the Institute for Public Representation Clinic, and a BA, magna cum laude, from Harvard-Radcliffe College, where she was Phi Beta Kappa.
