Description: Since the introduction of the ground-breaking Uniform Guidance or the “UG” (2 CFR Part 200) almost ten years ago, the world of federal grants law has continued to grow and develop including, most recently, this April when OMB issued the latest set of amendments to the UG. In addition, congressional action over the past five years, including COVID and infrastructure funding (much in the form of grant funds) and the return of earmarks (also usually grants) demonstrates in very clear terms why federal grants are one of the primary ways in which the federal government furthers federal policy. This class will focus on current and developing issues in the world of federal grants. The following are among the topics our experienced faculty will discuss:
- Major changes to the UG and what they mean to the community
- Common audit findings from the past and expectations for the future the Office of the Inspector General and other federal audits of COVID and other new funding move forward
- Developing areas
- Fixed price awards and sub-awards
- Congressionally directed spending, including terms and conditions
- Conflicts of interest in grants with focus on research awards
This informative class is designed to teach key principles of federal grants law as well as how to be prepared as the rules continue to grow and develop. Those who attend will learn not just about recent changes but will also learn about how those changes create obligations and opportunities.
