This class is eligible for CLE Passport use. Credits: 2.0 ethics and professionalism credit hours, including up to 1.0 hour of substance use disorders & mental health credit for those jurisdictions with this requirement. Description: Mental health and substance use disorders affect people from all walks of life and all age groups, including attorneys. These disorders are serious, common, recurrent, and affect the person’s personal and professional relationships. Join our multi-disciplinary panel as they discuss the connection between substance use disorders, mental health issues, and ethics violations. The panel includes an attorney who has represented many respondents in cases involving these issues and a senior assistant disciplinary bar counsel who will discuss the rules related to addiction and mental health problems in bar disciplinary proceedings, as well as key cases about addiction and mental health issues. Also on the panel is a senior member of the D.C. Bar Lawyer Assistance Program who will discuss the resources available to those who are experiencing these issues. This class will help those who attend to understand the profession’s role in assisting our colleagues who experience addiction, depression, or other mental health problems. Faculty: Denise J.
